The Difference Between Broad and Full Spectrum CBD

Since the 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana, more and more people have been using CBD for its benefits.  However, many users are still unsure about what the different types of CBD are, and their individual properties. Keep reading if you're curious about better understanding the difference between broad and full spectrum CBD.

Full Spectrum CBD
Every hemp plant contains CBD, CBG, CBN, Delta-8, Delta-10, less than .3% of Delta-9 THC, and many other cannabinoids. Full Spectrum CBD is a product that doesn’t remove any of these cannabinoids, so that users can get the full benefits of the different cannabinoids.

The .3% of Delta-9 THC is a marker specifically chosen because it is believed at this amount, there aren't any head effects. So, even though it does contain THC, full spectrum CBD will only have a head effect if taken in very large quantities at once.

Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad Spectrum, also contains all of the different cannabinoids as Full Spectrum, but with one key difference. Broad Spectrum has had all trace amounts of Delta-9 THC removed from the product.

Broad Spectrum can also sometimes be confused with CBD isolate, but CBD isolate only contains CBD, without any other cannabinoids.

Will Both Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum Show Up On a Drug Test?
Due to its trace amounts of Delta-9 THC, Full Spectrum CBD can show up on a drug test that is testing for THC. However, broad spectrum CBD won’t show up on a drug test that is testing for THC.

But, it's important to note that some drug tests can test for CBD, in which case they would both show up on the test.

Which is Best?
Neither full spectrum or broad spectrum is better than the other, instead, it is about how your individual body responds to it. Depending on the condition you're planning on treating with CBD, doing some individual research into how others in a similar place as you have responded to the products might help point you in the right direction.

Just keep in mind that every body is different, so when using hemp products, it's about trying and learning which form of CBD you feel best when using.
